Celebrating Ten Years of Partnership: Software.org and Girls Who Code’s Summer Immersion Program

Software.org: the BSA Foundation is proud to partner for its tenth consecutive year with Girls Who Code for the two-week Summer Immersion Program (SIP). This program addresses the gender gap in STEM by bringing together young women and nonbinary students from high schools nationwide to learn coding in virtual classrooms led by mentors from industry-leading companies.

During the two-week SIP, Girls Who Code instructors will primarily focus on teaching the basics of web development through interactive lessons and projects. This year, students will delve into Game Design, covering beginner and intermediate computer science concepts such as UX design basics, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web development. In addition to coding, students will engage in mentorship workshops, explore career opportunities in STEM through interactions with women in the software industry, and meet with members of Congress and other high-ranking government officials.

Throughout the program, students will participate in a series of mentorship workshops. Software.org continues its commitment, building on BSA | The Software Alliance’s legacy, which has supported a DC Girls Who Code SIP classroom since the program’s inception in 2015.

Key Highlights:

Interactive Learning: Students, many with no prior coding experience, will learn web development basics and game design principles.
Mentorship and Career Exploration: Students will gain insights from women in the tech industry and participate in workshops to learn about various career paths.
High-Profile Engagements: Participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with influential figures in government and industry.

Software.org and Girls Who Code are committed to closing the gender gap in technology and inspiring the next generation of female tech leaders. We look forward to another successful year of empowering young women through this transformative program.
